Songs -VS- Recordings

As I sift through what seems like an endless collection of folders...I find that there is a great difference between songs and recordings.  I'm after the songs.  There are certain songs that I am sure I will never play live again.  On the other hand there are certain ones that I can't believe I've neglected.  Guess I didn't dig the recordings.  I'm getting myself geared up to play a solo show soon.  I so am fighting myself every step of the way.  I'm ridiculous.  As if I didn't know this.  My new album will be full of good songs...and good recordings.  Don't know that I've ever made a decision to do that.  My show(s) will be be the same.  I just wanna play good songs.  Songs that I have fun playing, for one reason or another.  They can make me laugh...or they can make me cry.  Doesn't matter.  I could make a list of the poor poor casualties that have fallen by the wayside (surprsingly even) within the last couple nights...but I won't.  Or, maybe I will.  I have a blog now...I can write whatever it is I want.  See, I'm doing it now.  Don't even care.

The Lonely Mile. Unreleased album from 2000.

In 2000 I recorded an album.  It was called "The Lonley Mile."  I was fucked up.  Real real fucked up.  Drunker than hell and you can hear it in every song.  I don't say that proudly at all.  Just a fact.  IN FACT...if you focus on the fact that I was fucked up out of my mind...you'll enjoy the album a whole lot more.  If you forget that important piece of information...it just sounds like you're listening to a full on idiot.  You've been warned.  Anyway...  There must be a reason why I've never let ANYONE hear this album.  I just listened to it myself...and while it's not my best effort...it's not a COMPLETE embarrasment to me.  I think the songs have some merit.  I appreciate my enthusiasm back then.  Story songs.  I was waaaay into story songs.  Almost every song is a ridiculous story.

DAYDRINKER.

Daydrinker is the name of the band that my brother Ben and I used to get drunk and fantasize about.  We wrote lots of songs.  Really good ones.  My favorite songs in the world to be totally honest.  If I can't convince Ben to make a record with me...I may bait him by starting a record and watching him squirm...waiting to be invited in on the fun.  He works hard.  He may not have time.  It may not happen...but dig it...these are the songs we have written...these are all unrecorded.  Potential victims.  These are the ones that didn't manage to fall through the cracks...which was/is a pretty easy task to manage.

Fuck Statistics. Tuesday Night. Bears, and fishing.

Set out just as pretty as you please.  I was going to go catfishing with my pal Dave. Dave is a ridiculous human.  In the best possible way.  I was looking forward to the evening...catching fish and all...it's tuesday for christ's sake.  Helluva plan.  Sooooo...rolling along...rolling along...CRASH!  I HIT and KILLED a bear with my brother and sister-in-law's van.  Now, if you are anyone that knows my brother and I...you would know how amazing this is.  It's really really sad too..I'll get to that in a minute.  I do truly feel bad about it, but I was helpless.  Back to this in a second....Cool.  So, it's amazing because my brother Ben and I are fascinated by bears.  Particularly in being attacked by one.  We are both genuinely afraid to walk around our block during the warm summer months.  Bears.  There could be bears.  And...Goddamnit...there ARE bears.  You who see me as crazy...are the fools.  I hit and killed a bear tonight.  Knocked his leg CLEAN OFF.  For rizzeal too.  Knocked it's leg off.  Back to the feeling bad...well, I feel bad.  I killed a bear.  Couldn't have swerved.  Couldn't have.  Woulda flown off a nice little cliff.  I hate that it happened.  I'm also in shock.  A deer...I could somehow get past.  But...I ran down a 250-300 pound black bear.  Fucks a dude up.  I was the guy in the vehicle that perfectly alligned to hit that bear.  I am that statistic.  Got no time for you and your "You know what the odds are of being hit by lighting?"  Nonsense.  Somebody is that statistic.  It's absolutely the story of my life to be that very thing.  Call me ultraphobic.  I call it being an 'altered' realistic.
